Rose State College Collaborates to Offer IT Microcredentials and Reimbursement to Students

The Rose State College (RSC) Business and Information Technology (BIT) division and Workforce Development (WFD) division have collaborated to launch an initiative that fully supports students seeking industry-recognized microcredentials in information technology and cybersecurity. Through funding allocated by the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education (OSRHE), Rose State students who complete the course requirements with a minimum grade of C or better and pass the required CompTIA A+, Network+, or Security+ certification exams can qualify for full reimbursement of both their course tuition and exam fees.

“We are pleased to provide this opportunity for Rose State students,” said Dr. Charles DeSassure, Dean of BIT. “Students who earn their associate degree and complete an IT industry exam will be able to offer immediate validation of their skills to future employers. When BIT and Workforce Development can collaborate and work together to provide such opportunities for students to succeed, it highlights the strong, team-focused environment we have fostered here at Rose State.”

Microcredentials provide targeted training and competencies that align with the specific needs of today’s workforce. Each CompTIA certification—A+, Network+, and Security+—is globally recognized for validating essential IT knowledge and skills. These credentials give students a competitive edge in pursuing careers within the rapidly growing cybersecurity and IT industries.

“Our commitment is to ensure that students have every resource available to gain skills that meet the demands of an evolving tech landscape,” said Dr. Whitney Alvis, Dean of Workforce Development. “By offering exam reimbursements and partnering with the BIT division, we are removing financial barriers and helping students enter the workforce with the confidence and qualifications that employers need right now.”

“Microcredentials are a powerful way for students to showcase specific, in-demand competencies,” added Chelsea Hunt, Director of Workforce Programs. “They are not only beneficial for the students’ career growth, but also essential for meeting the ever-increasing workforce demands in Oklahoma and beyond. We are proud to stand behind our students, offering the support necessary for them to succeed in today’s competitive job market.”

In addition to funding support, Rose State College has embedded relevant coursework within its IT and Cybersecurity degree programs that closely aligns with CompTIA certification learning outcomes, thoroughly preparing students for their national exams.
