Rose State College Writing Committee was selected to receive the 2024 Oklahoma Online Excellence Award in Open Education Impact on May 31, 2024.
The Writing Committee, an ad-hoc group, consists of part-time and full-time faculty dedicated to researching and implementing affordable and accessible materials for Composition courses. The Committee was established in 2013, and dozens of members have volunteered innumerable hours to projects.
“We are thrilled to receive this prestigious honor,” said Rose State President Dr. Jeanie Webb. “This team’s dedication to innovative pathways and accessibility to online coursework is a testament to the commitment to student excellence and success.”
The Writing Committee strives to ensure the curriculum is up-to-date and available for faculty and students, specifically those in the online forum. Developing and implementing a new, fully online final exam for the composition program ensures academic integrity funded by college resources.
“We are proud of the work we have accomplished thus far,” said Rose State College Writing Program Coordinator Kristen Kirkman. “I have no doubt that the dedication of our composition faculty will continue to influence our program in positive ways.”
The last stage of the project was finalized by Kristen Kirkman, Kelly Chamlee, Lacey Veazey-Daniel, Janice Andrews, and Corey Fitzgerald. Kirkman will lead another faculty team this summer to explore the opportunities AI has presented with its emergence.
The Oklahoma State Regents’ Council for Online Excellence (COLE) strives to create high-quality, affordable, and accessible online courses for students. The function of COLE is based on the collaboration of faculty, staff, and administrators from colleges and universities across the state to ensure excellence in online education.
