The Rose State College Film Studies and Digital Media (FSDM) program recently hosted its student awards program highlighting film and media production achievements. Students submitted their work for nomination in ten categories: cinematography, directing, editing, animation, documentary, drama, comedy, music videos, experimental film, and screenwriting.
“It’s important for the students to have their work viewed under a critical eye, mirroring the film festival circuit where so many filmmakers get their start,” said Professor Marcus Mallard, FSDM program coordinator. “Just being nominated is quite an achievement and builds energy and passion in the creative minds.”
In addition to the ten award categories, the program also awarded Best of Show and Best Body of Work honors, recognizing high achievement as evaluated by a panel of film screeners, which includes Rose State faculty and staff with various levels of involvement in the film and media industries.
This ceremony marked the first recognition of student achievements since the creation of the FSDM program in January 2023. Professor Mallard hopes this sets a precedent for the film department at Rose State College. All nominated films will be available for viewing through the Rose State Library and Learning Resource Center through their special collections.
The film department extends its gratitude to the Reel Raiders FSDM Student Club, Student Engagement, Rose State Library and Learning Resource Center, Liberal Arts and Sciences Dean Toni Castillo, and all volunteers who assisted in screening and ranking the films to determine nominees and winners in all categories.
