The Oklahoma Higher Education Heritage Society inducts Russell D. Vaught into its esteemed 2024 Hall of Fame. His exemplary contributions to higher education in Oklahoma make him a standout candidate for this prestigious honor. 

Russell D. Vaught played an instrumental role in founding and developing Oscar Rose Junior College, now known as Rose State College in Midwest City, Oklahoma. As the college’s first Board Chairman, he guided RSC’s early years with dedication and leadership, laying the foundation for the college’s success and commitment to educational excellence. 

In May 1973, Governor David Hall recognized Mr. Vaught’s contributions by appointing him to the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education. During his 14-year tenure, including two terms as Chairman, he advanced the state’s higher education system through vital initiatives and policies. His strategic vision and leadership drove academic excellence across the state, impacting policy and furthering the state’s academic mission with a strong commitment to education and student success. 

“Beyond his professional duties, Russell Vaught passionately helped students secure scholarships and opportunities for higher learning,” stated Dr. Jeanie Webb, Rose State College president. “His belief in the transformative power of education inspired countless students, providing them with essential tools and support to succeed.”

His induction into the 2024 Hall of Fame of the Oklahoma Higher Education Heritage Society fittingly recognizes his outstanding achievements, leadership, and dedication to education in Oklahoma.
