U.S. Department of Education Awards Five-Year Grant Renewal to TRIO Student Support Services at Rose State College

A group of thirteen people stand in a row indoors, smiling at the camera. Most are wearing blue graduation stoles with “Rose State College” printed on them and holding certificates. Behind them is a black backdrop with the word “TRIO” repeated, along with a balloon arch in black, white, red, and silver. The group includes a mix of men and women of varying ages and ethnicities, dressed in business casual and semi-formal attire. The floor is carpeted in blue and gray, and the room has white walls.

The U.S. Department of Education has awarded a five-year grant renewal to Rose State College’s TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) program, ensuring continued support for students through 2030.

TRIO SSS delivers comprehensive academic and personal support to eligible students, including first-generation college students, individuals from limited-income households, and students with disabilities. With this renewed funding, the program will continue to provide critical services such as academic advising, tutoring, financial literacy education, transfer assistance, and career development workshops.

“TRIO Student Support Services guides many of our students through the challenges of higher education and helps them achieve their academic goals,” said Jessica Nelson, Director of TRIO programs. “This grant renewal allows us to keep empowering students to succeed in the classroom and beyond.”

Since its founding, TRIO SSS at Rose State College has regularly maintained federal benchmarks for student retention, academic standing, and graduation rates. The renewal of the grant confirms the program’s success and influence on RSC students’ lives.

“Over the next five years, our team will expand outreach and launch new initiatives that meet students where they are,” said Dr. Kirby Harzman, Vice President for Student Affairs. “This funding enables us to continue providing the tools, resources, and personal attention students need to succeed in higher education.”

TRIO SSS is one of eight federally funded TRIO programs aimed at promoting education access and opportunity across the country. During the 2024-25 academic year, RSC’s TRIO program supported 153 students, assisting them in overcoming obstacles to higher education and achieving their educational, career, and personal goals.
