
The Rose State College Film Studies & Digital Media program rolled out the red carpet this week as students premiered their capstone films and celebrated a year of creativity, collaboration, and achievement at Rodeo Cinema.
Four graduating students showcased their original films to a packed audience of classmates, faculty, family, and community supporters. Following the screenings, each filmmaker participated in a live Q&A session, sharing insights into their creative process, production experiences, and the lessons they learned while bringing their stories to life.
The featured films included:
- After Dark, directed by John Gibbs
- Iron Heart, directed by Carson Jorski
- One Second Chance, directed by Alvin Modesto
- Trial and Error, directed by Lainise Robinson
The evening continued with the program’s annual awards ceremony, where students received recognition for outstanding work across multiple filmmaking categories. This year’s award winners included:
- Best Screenplay — Molt, by Lex Simpson
- Best Editing — Bullseye, by Lex Simpson
- Best Cinematography — Second Serve, by William Harris
- Best Sound — Bullseye, by Lex Simpson
- Best Directing — Second Serve, by William Harris
- Best Documentary — Dad’s Cooking, by Amelia Brittingham
- Best Drama — Redbird, by John Gibbs
- Best Experimental — Bullseye, by Lex Simpson
- Best Comedy — School Over Flowers, by Lainise Robinson
- Best of Show — Redbird, by John Gibbs
- Best Body of Work — Lex Simpson
The event highlighted the talent, dedication, and storytelling abilities of Rose State’s emerging filmmakers while allowing students to celebrate one another’s accomplishments.
