From Vast Views to Artful Insights: RSC TRIO Students Explore Life Skills and Culture

The Rose State College (RSC) TRIO Student Support Services office helps bridge the gap for first-generation college students by providing resources and guidance for their success in college.

Recently, the RSC TRIO program allowed students the opportunity to eat lunch at Vast and visit the Oklahoma City Museum of Art. Before the trip, the students were required to attend a presentation on etiquette skills for formal dinners and were encouraged to practice their newly learned skills.

The group enjoyed delicious meals at Vast and a view of the Oklahoma City skyline from the state’s tallest building.

After lunch, the group traveled a few blocks to the Oklahoma City Museum of Art. They could see the flower sculptures displayed there during the annual “Art in Bloom” exhibition and the other galleries.

RSC TRIO student Delaney Cruzan stated, “Being able to attend the Oklahoma Museum of Art and participate in an etiquette luncheon at Vast was such a privilege. RSC TRIO helps students to overcome various socioeconomic and educational barriers by promoting life skills such as formal etiquette and engaging in cultural education via our many museum trips. I am incredibly grateful for the experiences TRIO has provided me with and would recommend this program to anyone!”

Additionally, TRIO students are taught other soft skills, such as studying, time management, accountability, and more. Honing these soft skills ensures students succeed in their studies and long-term career goals.

TRIO Coordinator Jessica Nelson stated, “TRIO Student Support Services is a program dedicated to assisting students achieve their educational goals and dreams. That includes preparing them to engage with their peers and community leaders at formal galas and banquets as well as in the classroom.”
