Glad I Chose Rose | Bee Sidwell

Rose State College is proud of our students – past and present. We’re excited to introduce you to the next Raider in our “Glad I Chose Rose” series, highlighting Rose State College alumni!

Meet Bee Sidwell. Class of 2014.

Bee discovered Rose State College through her mother, who attended RSC. When Bee started looking for a place to go to school, her mom suggested Rose State. Bee remembered tagging along with her mom on occasion and how much fun it was.

Bee chose to study Psychology at Rose and loved taking classes with Dr. Lizzie Boger. Bee says Dr. Boger influenced her time at RSC more than anyone else.

“Dr. Boger made me feel so comfortable to unabashedly love learning about psychology. I was shy, but she always noticed when I had a thought to share and would call on me. I really enjoyed her classes, and when I eventually transferred to UCO and started my advanced statistics class there, I drove straight back to Dr. Boger’s office afterwards to ask for her help because she was able to make statistics so easily digestible. Dr. Boger is hilarious, sharply intelligent, and I wish I could redo a psychology associate’s just to take her classes again.”

Bee transferred to the University of Central Oklahoma (UCO), where she completed her bachelor’s degree in psychology with an art history minor. She’s currently pursuing her master’s degree in adult and higher education.

Bee found a home in higher education and currently works as an academic advisor at the University of Oklahoma (OU).

“The education and mentorship I received at Rose State was so meaningful and ultimately helped me realize that higher education is where I’m most comfortable. My psychology degree has several applications, and I feel like I use it every day in advising!”

In 2025, OU honored Bee as Provost’s Outstanding New Academic Advisor.

We asked Bee what advice she would give to current RSC students:

“First, attend class! You’ll miss out not just on information you need for tests, but also on opportunities to connect with your peers and learn about yourself. My second piece of advice would be to get to know your professors and go to office hours. That’s what they’re there for! Professors and advisors can help refer you to various resources on campus and make you aware of organizations or clubs you may have never known about otherwise.”

Bee recommends Rose State College for students who might be intimidated by large campuses or for anyone who wants to enter the workforce quickly. She says RSC has “countless resources available to students and the campus is beautiful.”

Bee also encourages RSC students to attend as many events as possible because it provides opportunities to connect with peers and meet new people!
