Rose State College is proud of our students – past and present. We’re excited to introduce you to the next Raider in our “Glad I Chose Rose” series, highlighting Rose State College alumni!
Meet Marnay McClintock. Class of 2022.
Marnay discovered Rose State College through mutual friends. She lived in Midwest City in the late ‘80s and moved back to Oklahoma in 2007. Pursuing a college degree had always been her dream, and with some encouragement from a friend, she decided to apply.
Marnay began her educational journey in Library Science at RSC in 2022. She became an active member of Phi Theta Kappa – a national honor society.

“Going to Rose was such an important steppingstone for my life,” Marnay said. “It gave me so much more confidence and direction in myself. It was always a nagging thought in the back of my head that I should go to college. It was such a personal goal I had always had and to finally accomplish it had a huge impact on my life.”

One of Marnay’s favorite memories from RSC was becoming a published writer in Pegasus, the Humanities Department’s magazine. She said being published “it meant the world” to her.
Several faculty and staff members greatly shaped Marnay’s RSC experience, including Megan Bryant, Sarah Fox, Julie Dill, and Andrew Soliven.
“These people were just amazing,” Marnay said. “Sarah, whom I still talk to today, has always encouraged me in so many ways, especially where library stuff is concerned. She helped me try to find a job as an LTA, but she’s also just been there when I needed to talk. Professor Dill’s creative writing class was the first class I took in person; it really opened the world of writing to me. I have dreamt of being a writer since I was a little girl and taking her class was a dream come true, and I learned that I am a pretty good writer. Professor Soliven was an amazing professor as well, I had a major family tragedy when I was taking his class, and he was so amazing through it all. He was always great at helping me learn about being an LTA.”
Marnay loved walking in the graduation ceremony at RSC because she didn’t get to walk at her high school graduation. “Walking across that stage felt like one of the biggest accomplishments of my life,” Marnay said.

After graduating from RSC, Marnay transferred to Texas Tech University, where she earned a scholarship thanks to her outstanding GPA. She’s now finishing her bachelor’s degree in English and is excited to finish her studies.
In addition to her coursework, Marnay works at a local school as a Library Assistant.
When asked for advice she would give to current RSC students, Marnay shared, “always communicate with your professors because they are genuinely invested in your success.”
