Rose State College is proud of our students – past and present. This summer, we’re launching a series, “Glad I Chose Rose,” to highlight stories from Rose State alumni!
Meet Nathan Kelly. Class of 2017.
Nathan learned about Rose State College from his mother, Casey, who worked as an instructor at the Wellness Center. He also attended many of the Kids College Summer Camps growing up.
Nathan studied Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at RSC, then transferred to Oklahoma State University, where he double majored in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering.

Nathan said that many people impacted his life while he was a student at RSC, but three people stand out: Dr. Steven Fowler, Kim Queri, and Dr. James Gilbert.
“Dr. Fowler taught me about real-world engineering and gave me confidence in my capabilities as an engineer. Kim gave me opportunities to stretch myself and become a better leader. Dr. Gilbert taught me that attitude and approach to problems are key in solving them.”
Nathan said he learned many study skills at Rose State, which he applied to challenging courses he took later. With these techniques, he was able to pass the classes with good grades.
Nathan intentionally built his community while attending Rose State College, and he said he still speaks to many of his friends and coworkers from RSC.

Nathan was involved in the RSC Student Senate and the RSC President’s Leadership Program, worked as a lifeguard and water aerobics instructor at the Wellness Center pool, and was a member of the inaugural swim team.

Today, Nathan is a Lead Engineer at Tinker Air Force Base, leading a team of 20 engineers. He and his team work to fix aircraft engines for the United States Air Force.
Nathan credits much of his success to the people who have supported him throughout his educational journey. Nathan spoke of the passion the Rose State College staff and faculty bring to work every day.
Nathan’s most significant piece of advice for students at RSC is, “Take a risk. Do something you haven’t done before. This is how you grow as a person and expand your skill set.”
