Fine Arts – Musical Theatre

Program Goals & Outcomes

The goal of the Musical Theatre Emphasis in the Fine Arts Associate of Arts program is to prepare students to transfer to a 4-year college or university to pursue a baccalaureate degree in musical theatre.

Upon successful completion of this program, students will be able to:

  • Compose original works of art using a medium of their choice;
  • Generate art for the public using the tools of their discipline;
  • Evaluate the stylistic norms of their discipline;
  • Evaluate the development of visual, musical, or performing arts in Western culture;
  • Participate in musical or theatrical stage productions; and
  • Employ collegiate-level oral and written communication skills.

Students in the program must complete courses listed in Program Requirements and Support & Related sections with a minimum grade of “C” in each course in order to receive the Associate of Arts Degree.

GENERAL EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS (37 hours)

English Composition (6 hours)

  • ENGL 1113 English Composition I+

U.S. History/U.S. Government (6 hours)

  • HIST 1483 U.S. History to 1877
    or HIST 1493 U.S. History Since 1877
  • POLS 1113 American Federal Government

Sciences (7 hours)–one must include lab

  • Self-confidence, creative communication skills and organizational skills necessary to enter the job market.
  • The ability to perform a variety of musical theatre styles.
  • Participation in varied and diverse musical stage productions.
  • A basic knowledge of stage dancing techniques.
  • A basic general foundation of English, history, government, science, math and liberal arts appropriate for students transferring to a four-year institution.

A musical theatre degree at Rose State College will prepare you for baccalaureate training in music education and musical and theatre performance, as well as a career in the following areas:

  • Music director
  • Music performer
  • Teacher
  • Theatre performer

Rose State College and other Oklahoma colleges and universities have memorandums of understanding which identify course equivalencies between both institutions. These agreements aid transfer students.
