Information Technology Specialist (IT Fundamentals)
Program Goals & Outcomes
Individuals holding the CompTIA A+ Certification have developed the foundational skills necessary to excel in entry-level IT roles. They are competent in skills supporting today’s core technologies, including computer hardware, mobile devices, operating systems, network equipment, virtualization, cloud computing, troubleshooting, and security concepts. There are two options available to complete this micro-credential.
All micro-credentials are fully stackable with all other academic programs, allowing students to build customized pathways toward certificates, associate degrees, or even bachelor’s degrees.
Students must complete the required coursework or training to earn this micro-credential.

Rose State College and other Oklahoma colleges and universities have memorandums of understanding which identify course equivalencies between both institutions. These agreements aid transfer students.

Option 1:
- Complete Rose State College CIT 1523 Computer Hardware & Operating Systems course with a minimum grade of C.
Option 2:
- Complete two CompTIA A+ online self-study training courses with accompanying labs and practice tests AND complete two 40-hour, instructor-led, CompTIA A+ exam preparation training sessions.
Option 1 and Option 2:
- Complete and pass two CompTIA A+ exams (Core 1 and Core 2).
After completing this micro-credential, you will receive a digital badge to showcase your skills. This badge highlights your ability to understand and apply the fundamentals of IT support and management.
