Liberal Studies – Interdisciplinary
Program Goals & Outcomes
The goal of the Interdisciplinary Studies Emphasis of the Liberal Studies Associate of Arts degree program is to prepare students to transfer to a 4-year college or university to pursue a baccalaureate degree in Liberal Studies. It provides a broad foundation for students uncertain of their career paths.
Upon successful completion of this program, students will be able to:
- Evaluate ideas in the context of global human discourse;
- Compare and contrast cultural or philosophical perspectives;
- Apply civic and global awareness to analyze events, ideological positions, or practices from the past or present;
- Employ collegiate-level oral and written communication skills; and
- Apply multidisciplinary perspectives to produce solutions to contemporary problems.
Students in the program must complete courses listed in Program Requirements with a minimum grade of “C” in each course in order to receive the Associate of Arts degree.
As one of the most popular degrees at Rose State College, the Interdisciplinary Studies degree is ideal for students who aren’t exactly sure what they want to major in. You have the opportunity to try out courses from several disciplines as you prepare for a four-year degree. The goal of the Interdisciplinary Studies emphasis in the Associate of Arts degree in Liberal Studies is to prepare you to transfer to a baccalaureate degree program.
Accelerated degree path available in as little as 14 months, with most courses offered online.

English Composition (6 hours)

PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS (23 hours)
Students must earn a “C” or better in these courses to be eligible for graduation.
At least one 3-hour course must taken from a minimum of 4 different disciplines with 1000 or higher. These additional 23 hours may be from any discipline.

Leadership Certificate Required Courses (25 hours)
To receive a certificate, students must earn a “C” or better in these courses. The certificate will be awarded upon degree completion, unless the student opts out in writing to the Graduation Office prior to graduation.

Graduates of this option will be able to do the following:
- Demonstrate effective writing and communication skills.
- Apply analytical and critical thinking to a variety of situations and problems.
- Pursue careers in entry level government, education, business, and other similar fields through multidisciplinary preparation.
- Determine self-chosen academic and career goals.
- Exhibit a basic general foundation of English, history,government, science, math, and liberal arts appropriate for students transferring to a four-year institution.
A degree in Interdisciplinary Studies opens up a wide variety of careers for graduates. You are prepared to work on a Bachelor’s degree in multiple disciplines, and you will leave the program with a plan for your future. An associate degree in Interdisciplinary Studies shows potential employers that you can accomplish your goals and communicate well. These are things that all employers demand.
Rose State College and other Oklahoma colleges and universities have memorandums of understanding which identify course equivalencies between both institutions. These agreements aid transfer students.
