Student musicians from Rose State College were selected to perform in the 2026 Oklahoma Intercollegiate Honor Band, a prestigious statewide ensemble presented by the Oklahoma Music Educators Association (OkMEA) and the Oklahoma Membership of the College Band Directors National Association (CBDNA).
This marks Rose State’s second year participating in the Oklahoma Intercollegiate Honor Band. Each year, band directors from colleges and universities across Oklahoma nominate outstanding student musicians for consideration. Students then complete auditions to earn placement in the ensemble.
The Intercollegiate Honor Band experience takes place during the OkMEA Conference and includes intensive rehearsals. The ensemble then presents a culminating concert for attendees of the OkMEA Conference. Following the performance, participating students can attend the remainder of the conference, gaining access to professional clinics, performances, and networking with music educators from across the state. Two Rose State College students were selected for the 2026 Oklahoma Intercollegiate Honor Band: Eric Morales and Nicholas Waskom.
In addition to student recognition, Rose State College is also celebrating a major leadership honor for Dr. David Marvel, who was nominated by fellow Oklahoma band directors to serve in a multi-year leadership role with the Oklahoma Intercollegiate Honor Band. Dr. Marvel was selected to serve as assistant chair for 2027 and 2028 and will then serve as chair for 2029 and 2030.
“Being part of the Oklahoma Intercollegiate Honor Band gives our students an experience they will remember for the rest of their lives,” said Dr. David Marvel. “It’s an incredible honor for Rose State, and I’m proud of our students for earning their place among the top collegiate musicians in Oklahoma.”
