Rose State College hosted the annual Art Show and Exhibition at the RSC Performing Arts Center. From acrylic paintings to sculptures to video games, the student’s artwork wowed the crowd with its impressive range.
This year’s pieces included portraits of presidents, flowers in vases, cats, landscapes, abstracts, cows, dogs, apples, and more. The pieces sculpted out of clay included teapots and mugs with various designs. Photography was also in the exhibition.
The winners of the Art Show are selected each year by a panel of faculty and staff judges from across campus.
Each year, a panel of faculty and staff judges from across the campus selects the winners of the Art Show.
The 2025 winners and honorable mentions included:
- First place: Ciena Jennings, “Chukilissa – Te Ata” (Acrylic I)
- Second place: Lillian Gosser, “Caught in Flight” (Mixed Media Painting I)
- Third place: Dalton Matthews, “Skin to Skin” (Acrylic I)
- Honorable Mention: Brooke Hobson, “Skully Night” (Acrylic – Fundamentals of Art)
Ciena Jennings created her winning piece, “Chukilissa- Te Ata”, using acrylic paint. Jennings explained that Te Ata is the name of the woman portrayed in the painting, and Chukilissa means “calm” in Chickasaw.
“I am so happy to win the art show, but I didn’t expect it,” said Jennings. “I was just hoping to place in the show, but to win first is a great achievement! I am so proud of myself and cannot wait to see what is possible for my artistic career in the future.”
RSC Professor Suzanne Thomas emphasized the value of displaying student artwork on campus.
“It is important for our art students to have their work on display on campus,” said Suzanne Thomas. “Students at Rose State College are given an opportunity to have a larger audience to see their artwork during the annual show. They invite guests to come see their art and enjoy refreshments during a reception. The annual Art Show helps to promote the work students are creating in the Art Department at Rose State College.”
