Prior Learning

Rose State College is dedicated to the pursuit of academic excellence and to the service of the individual, the community, and the state. The policy allowing a student to be granted credit by examination recognizes that academic learning often occurs outside the formal college classroom setting. Rose State College evaluates a student’s previous learning experiences by awarding prior learning credit by institutionally prepared exams, standardized national tests such as the subject portion of the College Level Examination Program (CLEP), DANTES Subject Standardized Tests (DSST), and the Advanced Placement Program of the College Entrance Examination Board (APP). This brochure contains listings of various standardized tests which the College accepts as prior learning credit toward a degree. Students must attain the minimum acceptable score before credit can be granted. Any additional credit for examinations not listed in the brochure must have the approval of the particular academic division dean.

View the Prior Learning Assessment brochure for information on the College Level Examination Program (CLEP), Advanced Placement Program (AP), DANTES Subject Standardized *DSST tests that Rose State College accepts. Before any prior learning credit is transcribed, you must earn 12 credit hours (satisfying academic residency) at Rose State.

Our Prior Learning Credit Policies are reviewed annually in July. Any changes to the course listings are reviewed and added on an as-needed basis.
