New Raider Guide
Welcome to Rose State College! The information listed below will help guide new students through the next steps of becoming a Raider. From course placement and enrollment to setting up student accounts, applying for financial aid, purchasing textbooks, and exploring campus resources, this guide is designed to help students get started and stay connected throughout their journey at Rose State College.
Step 1: Check Course Placement Eligibility
Students may skip Step 2 and move directly to Step 3 if all of the following apply:
- English: Unweighted high school GPA 3.4 or above, ACT 19+, SAT 510+
- Reading: Unweighted high school GPA 3.4 or above, ACT 19+, SAT 510+
- Math: Unweighted high school GPA of 3.6 or above and completed Algebra II with a C or above
GPA and test scores must be from the last three years.
Step 2: Prepare for & Complete the Accuplacer
Students needing placement testing should review the free Accuplacer study materials before testing.

Testing Information

- First attempt is free
- Retests cost $7 per section or $21 for all sections
- Walk-ins only

Preparing ahead of time can help students place into courses more quickly and stay on track toward graduation.
Step 3: Meet with an Academic Advisor & Enroll
Academic advisors help students enroll in classes and plan their schedules.
- New students and undecided majors: Student Services Building, Room 100
- Students with previous college credit: Meet with a division advisor
Advisors will assist with course enrollment and next steps.
Step 4: Get a Student ID & Parking Decal
Visit the Advisement Center in the Student Services Building, Room 100.

Step 5: Set Up Student Accounts
After enrolling, students should activate their Rose State College accounts through the Single Sign-On (SSO) portal at sso.rose.edu. Account access becomes available the next business day after enrollment.
Getting Started
- Go to sso.rose.edu
- Select “First Time Users”
- Follow the prompts to create a password and set up account recovery options
Raider User ID
Student usernames are created using:
- First and last initials
- Followed by the RSC ID number
Example: JH1234567
Single Sign-On (SSO) gives access to the following:
- OASIS (PeopleSoft)
- View and modify class schedules
- Pay tuition balances
- Review financial aid information
- Check holds, To-Do lists, and account messages
- Canvas
- Canvas is Rose State’s online learning platform where students can:
- Access course syllabi and assignments
- Submit coursework
- Participate in discussions
- Take quizzes and exams
- Join Zoom course sessions
- Students are encouraged to download the Canvas Student mobile app for easy access.

- All official college communication will be sent to the Raider email account.

- Use office.com or the Rose State SSO portal to login:
- Username: Raider email address
- Password: Birthdate (MMDDYYYY) for the initial login

Step 6: Apply for Financial Aid & Scholarships
Complete the FAFSA at: studentaid.gov

Students should:
- Monitor financial aid status through OASIS
- Check Message Center, To-Do lists, and holds
- Explore scholarship opportunities at rose.edu/scholarships

Step 7: Buy Textbooks
Books may be purchased:

Students can use their Student ID number to generate a custom book list.
Pell Grant recipients may qualify to charge books to their bursar account.
